Makusue Race Team

race1The Makusue Ski and Sport Club has our own race team that competes with The Eastern Inter-Club Ski League (EICSL). The league is comprised of skiers and riders of all abilities. Even if you are just starting out in skiing, you can give it a try and they will place you with the right class.

The Makusue Team always takes home a big pile of awards and each year we strive to add to it!

Classes include, Men’s and Women’s Open, AA, A, B, C, D and snowboarding Men’s and Women’s SB1, SB2, and SB3. We all race on the same course and cheer each other on from the assigned gate keeping positions. If you aren’t racing, it is still fun to cheer on your fellow Makusues as well as friends from other clubs.

The races are held at mountains throughout the Mt. Washington Valley, and EICSL arranges for discounted lift tickets for race day. Past seasons’ races have been held at Wildcat, Cannon, Shawnee Peak, Bretton Woods, Black Mountain, Sunday River and Attitash. There are usually four sponsored races each season:

  • Three qualifier races (scheduled on weekends in January and February)
  • Championship race in March. Racers who complete at least one race qualify to participate in the Championship race.

Qualifying simply requires that you complete one race start to finish. Points are awarded for each race, so the more races you attend, the more points you have towards those awards. Your lowest score is dropped, so it is best to attend all three races, but if you miss one, it won’t get counted!

Basically, racing is fun, tickets are discounted, and you get to meet a lot of people and maybe win an award! After the race you spend the day with EISCL members from all clubs and really get to know some great skiers/riders.
